Music videos reflect the time in which they were made by the reflection of the social era's that they were made in. It gives an insight of different trends, eras in life. A good example is the music video ,Waterfalls, that was released in 1995 which emphasises social issues in the music video. For example, the music video used gives a deep understanding of the social concerns in the 90's including addiction, HIV and unsafe sex. The song represents the impact of these issues and to avoid these type of choices. It also challenges the idea of not speaking up on social issues by making a song involving the society problems.
The platform of being online and on social media is extremely powerful with hundreds and millions of fans that idolise these artists, which ultimately can change people's mindsets and reach out for help. Throughout these times its clear that drugs was starting to become an overpowering factor to life itself which also represents the video as a convincing message of responsibility and self care but also can educate the younger and upcoming generations to be conscious of these risks. Overall, this music video is an eye-opening narrative which is a prime example that music videos are not just to promote the song but also shows the bigger concerns in reality which has influenced later artists to this day using their platforms to raise awareness for serious issues.

# Stuart Hall came up with the idea that media producers encode messages with intended meanings, but audiences actively decode these messages based on their own experiences and contexts, leadingto diverse interpretations.# Hall identifies three potential ways audiences might decode amessage:# Preferred/Dominant Reading: The audience accepts the intended meaning of the message.
Negotiated Reading: The audience partially accepts the intended meaning but also incorporates their own interpretations and perspectives. # Oppositional Reading: The audience rejects the intended meaning andinterprets the message in a way that contradicts the producer's intent.
